Install the plugin

WordPress 6.9+. WP Adapter registers a short list of abilities and its own MCP server. No theme PHP. No SQL.

Paste the config

Connect copies JSON for Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Claude Code. Application password. Never an admin login.

Talk, then you publish

Ask for a draft, a rewrite, a block swap. Open wp-admin when you are ready — or never enable publish at all.

Safety is the product

The agent writes inside the frame. You decide what leaves it.

Draft-only

Publish, future, and private are rejected unless Pro is licensed and “Allow publish” is on.

Audit

Every mutating ability logs who, which tool, which object. Content bodies truncated. Passwords never stored.

Rollback

Restore title, content, excerpt, status, slug, taxonomies, featured image. ACF internals stay untouched.

Is this the official MCP Adapter?

No. MCP Adapter is the official transport from the WordPress project. WP Adapter is a product on top: curated tools, draft-only defaults, audit log, and rollback.

Which WordPress version?

WordPress 6.9 or newer, PHP 8.1+, HTTPS in production. The Abilities API ships in core. The plugin bundles a compatible copy of MCP Adapter via Composer.

What can the agent actually do?

Lite: read the site and write drafts. Pro: publish if you allow it, trash (not force-delete), upload media, edit individual Gutenberg blocks, and roll back. The full list lives in docs.
